Olympus Trip Panorama S

  • Manufacturer Olympus
  • Type Snapshot camera
  • Type of Film 35mm
  • Focal Length 33 mm
  • Max Aperture f/4.5
  • Focus Fixed focus

The Olympus Trip Panorama S is characterised by its user-friendliness and was launched by Olympus in the 1990s as a compact snapshot camera. With a limited selection of settings, it is particularly easy to use. It was produced in a factory in Japan.

The camera is equipped with a plastic housing and a fixed lens. This lens offers a maximum aperture of f/4.5 with a fixed focal length of 33 mm. A sliding door is integrated to protect the lens from damage.

As the camera does not have autofocus and the focus is fixed, a minimum distance of one metre to the object is recommended for optimum image sharpness.

Variations in the exposure setting are not possible, as neither aperture nor shutter speed can be adjusted. However, the sensitivity of the film can be adjusted on the front of the camera using a slider for ISO values of 100, 200 and 400.

The camera model has neither a tripod thread nor a self-timer function. However, a camera strap can be attached and a bag was originally included in the scope of delivery.

The built-in flash can be used if required. The camera and the automatic film transport are powered by two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*).

A special feature of the Olympus Trip Panorama S is the panorama function, which creates a wider image by mechanically covering parts of the image frame, simulating a panorama effect. Alternatively, this effect can also be achieved by cropping the developed image, as no additional image information is captured in panorama mode.

Panorama mode is activated via a switch on the back. This allows the mode to be switched on within the roll, i.e. after each image.

Films for the Olympus Trip Panorama S

The Olympus Trip Panorama S is designed for use with 35mm film, which is still available today and easy to develop.

The Kodak Gold 200* is recommended for colour photography, while the Ilford Delta 100* is suitable for black and white photography. Both films are known for their excellent quality.

The colour film should be developed using the C-41 process, which is offered by most photo labs. Many large drugstore chains in Germany also offer this service. Black and white films require a special developing process, which is also carried out by numerous professional laboratories and can also be done at home, provided the appropriate chemicals and utensils are available.

Quartz Date function

The Panorama S has an in-built clock, which makes it possible to add the date and time to the photos. This is the analogue alternative to Exif data. The disadvantage is that you have the data in the images.
