Olympus Trip AF 61

  • Manufacturer Olympus
  • Type Snapshot camera
  • Type of Film 35mm
  • Focal Length 28 mm
  • Max Aperture -
  • Focus Automatic

The Olympus Trip AF 61 is characterised as a user-friendly point-and-shoot camera that offers hardly any configuration options, making it particularly easy to use. It was manufactured in a factory in China. The Trip AF 60 is an almost identical model, but lacks the self-timer function.

The device is equipped with a fixed plastic housing and a fixed lens. The lens has a focal length of 28 mm, which makes it ideal for wide-angle shots, whether landscape or street photography. An autofocus system is used for focussing and a sliding door protects the lens from external influences.

There are no options for manually setting the aperture and shutter speed on this camera.

There is a tripod connection on the underside. The camera also offers the option of using a self-timer. This means that group pictures are no problem at all.

The Olympus Trip AF 61 allows the attachment of a camera strap and was originally sold with a suitable carrying case.

If required, the built-in flash is activated, which offers a reduction of the red-eye effect through an automatic setting.

The operation of the camera, including the automatic film transport, is ensured by two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*).

Films for the Olympus Trip AF 61

According to the user manual, the camera uses 35mm 35mm film, which can still be produced and developed in most photo labs.

For vivid colour images, Kodak Gold 200* is recommended, while Ilford Delta 400* provides outstanding black and white photographs. Both film types are known for their high quality and reliability and have proven themselves in tests.

The colour film is suitable for the C-41 development process, a common standard in film processing that is also offered by well-known drugstore chains in Germany.

The black and white film must be developed in a proper developer. This development is usually also offered by professional laboratories.

After each exposure, the film is advanced by an internal motor. Once the film is fully exposed, it is automatically rewound back into the cassette. The rewinding process can be accelerated manually using a special button on the camera base.

Quartz Date version

There is also a Quartz Date version of the camera. The Olympus Trip AF 61 QD model has a built-in clock that allows time and date information to be added to the images by superimposing it in a corner of the image.
