The Olympus Trip 601, a snapshot camera from Olympus, is characterised by its ease of use and 35 mm format. Similar models, such as the Olympus Trip AF 51 and Olympus Trip 505, were also marketed under the Olympus label. The camera was manufactured in a Chinese factory.
The fixed lens of the Olympus Trip 601 has a focal length of 28 mm and a maximum aperture of f/6.7. The lens consists of three glass elements and is ideal for snapshots, landscape and group shots.
The focus setting cannot be changed on this model and manual distance adjustment is not possible. To obtain razor-sharp images, the distance to the subject should be at least 100 cm, which makes macro shots less suitable.
An exposure meter ensures correct exposure settings and is designed for films with ISO 100 to ISO 400. The sensitivity of the film is automatically recognised from the cartridge.
The automatic exposure function does not allow the photographer to select the shutter speed and aperture manually. The shutter speed ranges from 1/140 second to 1/2 second.
In poor lighting conditions, the built-in flash can be used, which has a range of up to 1.9 metres at ISO 100. A light on the back of the camera indicates that the flash is ready for use.
The camera body has a tripod thread, which makes group shots easier. A self-timer is also integrated. Power is supplied by two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*), although rechargeable batteries can also be used.
A camera strap can be attached to the side of the plastic housing.
Films for the Olympus Trip 601
The Olympus Trip 601 uses 35mm film, and despite the digital photography boom, there is a nostalgic affection for analogue film. The Kodak Gold 200* is recommended for colour shots, while the Ilford Delta 400* is suitable for black and white shots. Both films show solid performance in various shooting situations.
The C-41 development process is suitable for processing colour films, which is available in most photo labs. In Germany, it is also possible to have colour films developed in large drugstore chains.
The Olympus Trip 601 has an exposure area of 24 mm x 36 mm. The film transport is automatic and a window on the back shows the film loaded. The back can only be opened after the film has been rewound into the cartridge.
