The Olympus Trip AF 20 is a snapshot camera that was introduced by Olympus in the 1990s. It is a typical model of the time, easy to use and therefore a good choice for beginners. It comes with a black plastic body and was manufactured in Malaysia. A similar model is the Olympus Trip 200 and the Trip AF 21.

Unlike other 35mm cameras, the lens on this model is not interchangeable, which sets it apart from other cameras. The focal length of the lens is 31 mm. With this focal length, it is well suited for everyday shots and quick snapshots. It does not have a zoom function. Focussing is made easier by a built-in autofocus system.

Measuring the exposure is made easier by the built-in light meter, as there are no manual setting options. The exposure settings are determined automatically by the camera's electronics. The film speed is triggered by the coding on the film cartridge.

Of course, there is also a built-in flash. The fill-flash mode triggers the flash with every picture. A fill flash makes sense if the subject is darker than the background. However, the flash can also be switched off if desired. To prevent red-eye in the pictures, there is an automatic function for reducing this photo effect.

This model does not have a tripod thread. However, there is a connection option for a camera strap. It was also sold with a suitable bag for storage at the time.

The Olympus Trip AF 20 does not have a self-timer.

The Olympus photo camera is powered by two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*). These batteries also supply the automatic film transport with power.

Films for the Olympus Trip AF 20

The Olympus Trip AF 20 is specially designed for use with 35mm film, as stated in the instruction manual. The long-standing presence and popularity of the 35 mm format have led to it still being produced by various manufacturers today.

Photographic films available for the Olympus Trip AF 20 and conveniently available from online retailers include the Ilford XP2 Super* for stunning black and white images and the Kodak Portra 160* for vibrant colour photographs. There are many other companies that offer films for this format.

The colour film is a negative film that is processed in the C-41 development process. The C-41 process is offered by most photo labs, which means that film can be developed at most drugstores.

The exposure area of the 35mm camera is 24mm x 36mm. It is common for a roll of film to hold approximately 36 images. After each photo, the film is automatically rewound. When the film material is full, the camera also rewinds. This process can also be triggered manually using a switch on the underside.

There is no display on this model. The only display is the frame counter on the top. A small window on the back provides a view of the inserted film.
