The Fujifilm Instax Mini is an instant film from Japanese production. It can be used in the Instax Mini cameras from Fujifilm. Unlike Polaroid films, the films are still produced new. Cameras are also still available to buy new. In addition to Fujifilm’s cameras, Lomography makes two backs for their cameras (Lomo LC-A+ & Diana F+) for this format. It cannot be used in the Polaroid cameras.
The Instax Mini Film* provides beautiful color photos with vivid colors and a fine grain. You get very solid results with the Instax films. Like the old Polaroid films, you can watch the photo develop. By the way, shaking the film to shorten the development time doesn’t help.
The size of a picture is about the same as a credit or business card. The exact dimensions are 86 x 54 mm (size of the film) or 62 x 46 mm (size of the actual picture).
Editions
In addition to the normal version with the white frame, there are also editions with colorful frames, with patterns or imprints, e.g. from the movie “Cars” or from Winnie the Pooh, around the picture. It is also still sold under the name “Polaroid 300”.
One cassette of the film contains 10 pictures. It is usually sold in packs of two cassettes. For a double pack, you usually have to put about 14 to 18 euros on the table.
Cameras for the Instax Mini film
The Instax Mini fits the following cameras, among others: Fujifilm Instax Mini 7S, 10, 25, 30, 20i, 30i, 25i, 50i, 55i, 50S, 8, 90, 70, Polaroid 300, Leica Sofort, Lomo’Instant and Lomo’Instant Automat. But you can also use it with the various Bluetooth printers or the backs for Lomography cameras.
If one finds the format a bit too small, there is an alternative from Fujifilm, the Instax Wide format. The is also an Instax instant film for square photos.
Design of the packaging
Over the years, packaging of the film has been repeatedly adapted. Also there are different designs for different markets and package sizes.
