The Fujifilm Instax Square film is an instant film. It is the first film for the Instax Square format introduced in 2017. It is the third instant format from the Japanese manufacturer Fujifilm.
The film is an instant film for creating color images. The size of a picture is equivalent to 8.6 by 7.2 cm. 6.2 by 6.2 cm is the size of the actual picture taken. With the square format, it is somewhat reminiscent of the pictures taken with the old Polaroid 600 or Polaroid SX-70 cameras.
The remaining area is taken up by the frame. This is white on this film, there are also editions with other colors. The frame can be written on with appropriate pens. This makes it perfect for events such as weddings, parties and birthdays.
After the picture is taken, the camera ejects the image, spreading the development chemistry over the image. As if out of nowhere, the image then appears in under two minutes. It is not possible to speed up the development by shaking the image.
Film format
You can use the film in all Instax Square instant cameras from Fujifilm. However, it can also be used in cameras from other manufacturers that supported the Instax Square format. This includes, for example, the Lomography Diana Instant Square and the Lomo’Instant Square. Of course, the film cannot be used in the old Polaroid instant cameras.
There are ten pictures in a film cassette. The unexposed pictures must not come into contact with light, of course. Therefore, before all the pictures have been taken, you must not open the camera. When the cassette is inserted into the camera, a black protective layer is first ejected. Once this process is complete, the first photo can be taken.
