The Fujifilm Instax Mini 7S is an instant camera for the Instax Mini format. It is the predecessor of the Instax Mini 8 and was introduced in 2009.
The camera is available in different colors. The body is made of plastic and a wrist strap can be attached to the side.
The operation of the Instax Mini 7S is actually simple. It is turned on and off by pulling out the lens or sliding it in.
The Fujifilm Instax Mini 7S has a built-in light meter, this shows the appropriate exposure with a light. Here you then have a choice of four levels (four stops), these can be selected with a switch on the top of the camera. For each level there is a different symbol (house, cloud, sun, strong sun), which should make the whole thing a little easier. Of course, you don’t have to choose the default exposure setting that the light meter indicates, but you can also selectively underexpose or overexpose.
The film has a sensitivity of ISO 800 and the camera has a fixed exposure time of 160 seconds. The various settings correspond to f/12.7 (house), f/16 (cloudy), f/22 (sun), and f/32 (strong sun). This may sound like a very low-light camera, but the high film speed puts it all into perspective.
You don’t have to worry about focusing, as this is fixed. However, you shouldn’t get closer than 60 centimeters to your subject.
The built-in flash and the camera are powered by four AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*). The flash cannot be switched on.
You can see how many pictures you can take on the back of the camera. If you see a small yellow stripe through the window on the back, you know there is film in the camera.
The 7S uses the Instax Mini instant format. Fujifilm also makes matching color film for this format, the Instax Mini Film*. For black and white images, the company from Japan also has a film in its program, the Instax Mini Monochrome*. One image is about the size of a business card. Despite the high sensitivity, you can see almost no grain in the pictures.
Alternatives to the camera
There are numerous alternatives to the instant camera that will meet your personal wishes and requirements. A frequently chosen option is the Fujifilm Instax Mini 12*, which impresses with its handy format and uncomplicated handling. It has comparable functions to the camera described previously.
