The Fujifilm Instax Mini 50S is an instant camera. The housing is made of plastic and comes in black (piano black). It weighs 275 grams without battery, film and wrist strap. Its dimensions are 112 x 96.5 x 49.5 mm.
In terms of functions, it is almost identical to the Instax Mini 25.
The Instax Mini 50S still has a self-timer that can be turned on with a button on the top of the camera. It can also be mounted on a tripod. In return, the mirror for self-portraits is missing.
As with the Instax Mini 25, the camera sets the exposure automatically. There are three modes here, automatic, fill flash (strobe), and landscape (mountain). With the first, the camera just selects everything itself. In the second, it brightens the front area with the flash (useful for a dark subject against a bright background, for example). The third is for shooting landscapes. The exposure can still be adjusted with the slider.
Focusing is handled by the Instax Mini 50S itself, but you shouldn’t get closer than 60 cm to your subject. With the included close-up lens, however, 30 cm is also possible.
The lens is a fixed focal length, so zooming is only possible with the feet. Like the Instax Mini 25, the Instax Mini 50 S has two shutter buttons for portrait and landscape photography. The built-in viewfinder is not connected to the lens, so you shouldn’t rely on it 100%. To operate the camera, you need two CR2 batteries (eBay / Amazon*).
The Fujifilm Instax Mini 50S requires Instax Mini instant film to take pictures. Fujifilm makes film for this instant format. It is currently the smallest instant format on the market. One image is 86 x 54 mm in size. The dimensions of the captured image are 6.2 x 4.6 cm. An EC card is about the same size as an Instax Mini picture.
The individual pictures are in a special cassette. The cassette is placed in the camera. You can take ten pictures with one cassette. When the frame counter shows zero, the cassette must be replaced. The cost of one picture is about 70 cents.
Shortly after the shutter is released, the camera ejects the image. Then, as if from nowhere, the picture appears within minutes. The image quality of the color films (Instax Mini Film*) is impressive. The white frames around the image can be spiced up with pens and stickers.
For some time now, there has also been Instax Mini Monochrome*, a black-and-white film, in addition to the color film. Of the color film, there are various Special Editions. The Instax Mini cameras and films can be used well at weddings and parties.
