Praktica was an East German brand name for SLR cameras.
In 1938, the first 35mm SLR, the Praktiflex, was introduced by the company “Kamera-Werke Niedersedlitz”. The Praktica FX, introduced in 1948, was the first with the Praktica name. In 1959, Kamera-Werke Niedersedlitz was merged into VEB Kamera- und Kinowerke Dresden, later VEB Pentacon Dresden. By 2001, over 9 million Prakticas had been produced.
Many of the SLR cameras were exported from GDR and sold in West Germany under the Revue/RevueFlex and Porst trademarks, among others.
