The Praktica LB 2 is a SLR camera. It was produced from 1976 to 1977 by VEB Pentacon. A total of around 65,000 copies of the single-eyed reflex camera were produced. The camera is engraved with “PENTACON MADE in G.D.R”.
The objective of Praktica LB 2 is interchangeable. Lenses with an M42 thread can be used. The M42 thread was previously very common, so there are many lenses for this thread. Focusing is manual.
The 35 mm camera has a built-in meter for measuring the correct exposure. Exposure detects the SLR through a window on the front of the camera. The desired exposure time can be determined manually. The aperture is also freely selectable.
Bulb mode is available for long exposures. The built-in hot shoe can be used to trigger an external flash unit.
Films for the Praktica LB 2
The Praktica LB 2 needs photo film, more precisely 35mm film. 35mm films are still easy to get today and are developed by most photo laboratories. A good film choice for the Praktica LB 2 are the Kodak Gold 200* (color film) and the Kodak T-Max 400* (black and white film).
The color film is a negative film and is processed in the C-41 development process. This is offered by almost every photo lab.
The 35mm camera has a built-in self-timer. In addition, there is a connector for a cable release and a thread for a tripod.
The 35mm camera can today only found in used condition. The value of the Praktica LB 2 depends on the condition of the camera.

I picked up a fully-working Praktica LB2 today for £20. That’s probably what it’s worth, but to me, it’s a great piece of camera history and I’m looking forward to loading it up and going on a shoot 😊
