Washi Y is a black and white film. It is manufactured by Film Washi in France. Film Washi is a small manufacturer from Josselin that specialises in the production and distribution of special film material for analogue photography.

Washi Y makes it possible to take monochrome photographs. The emulsion is panchromatically sensitised. The nominal speed of the film is ISO 100. The film can be used for a wide range of subjects.

The special feature of the film is the carrier material used. Like Washi W, the photo emulsion is cast on Japanese paper. Here, the Japanese Moriki paper Tosa Washi (Kozo) was used.

Development of the film

The Y must be developed in a proper black and white developer. Black and white film development is offered by some photo labs in Germany. You have more control if you develop the film yourself and choose the photochemistry yourself.

Formats

The only film format of the film is medium format. The number of pictures depends on the format chosen. As a rule, twelve images fit on one roll of the film.

The Washi Y can theoretically be used in all medium format cameras. However, it is recommended to use only cameras with manual film transport, as the carrier material is very sensitive.

There is currently no version for 35 mm format.

Storage of Washi Y

It is advisable not to store unexposed Washi Y film stock in places with high humidity or direct sunlight to preserve the quality. A cool and dry storage environment is the ideal choice for long-term storage. Exposed film material should not be stored for an unnecessarily long time and should instead be developed as soon as possible to ensure optimal image quality.
