Washi X is a 35mm color negative film known for its fine grain, medium contrast and vivid color reproduction. Originally developed as Kodak Aerocolor IV 2460, this film was used for aerial photography and surveillance purposes before being repurposed for creative photography by Film Washi, a French company.
Features
Fine Grain: Washi X features a remarkably fine grain, especially when developed at reduced contrast. This allows for detailed images with high sharpness.
Medium Contrast: The film offers a balanced contrast suitable for a wide range of subjects, retaining detail in both the highlights and shadows, creating a natural look.
Vibrant Colors: Washi X produces vibrant and saturated colors that are particularly effective when shot with good lighting. Color reproduction is accurate and natural, with a slight bias toward warmer tones.
High dynamic range: The film can capture a wide exposure latitude of up to 10.5 stops, making it ideal for high-contrast scenes.
Versatility: The Washi X is suitable for a wide range of applications, from landscape and portrait photography to street and travel photography.
Formats
Film Washi only offers the Washi X as a 35mm film. The film can be used in most cameras.
Development and scanning
The Washi X is developed using the C-41 process, the standard process for color negative film. Most photo labs offer this development process.
Due to its clear base without orange masking, scanning the film can be simplified, resulting in improved color accuracy and fidelity.
