The Polaroid Originals B&W i-Type Film Black Frame Edition represents a contemporary take on instant photography that originated in the Netherlands through the company Polaroid Originals. In addition to the monochrome version, there is also a colorful alternative, namely the Polaroid Color Film for i-Type*.
This high-quality instant film has been specially developed for i-Type cameras, an innovative film format that is similar in size to Polaroid’s traditional 600 film. The initiators of this project, The Impossible Project, have created a format in which the total area of an image is 8.8 x 10.7 cm. Each image consists of a photographed motif measuring 7.9 x 7.9 cm, surrounded by a characteristic frame. In this case the frame is black.
The special thing about this film is that the development process begins immediately after exposure as soon as the image leaves the camera. During the development phase, which takes about five to ten minutes, users have no choice but to wait patiently while the magic of instant photography takes place.
Instant cameras for film
The i-Type film can be used in a variety of cameras including, but not limited to, the Polaroid Originals OneStep+ and the OneStep 2. The films come in cassettes that hold a total of 8 shots. It is important to note that unlike previous versions, the cassettes no longer contain batteries. This not only means a cost reduction – a pack is usually available for around 16 euros – but also represents progress in terms of environmental sustainability, as the battery is now integrated directly into the camera.
