Canon EOS 888

The Canon EOS 888 is a 35mm camera. It belongs to the group of SLR cameras and was introduced in 1995. It is the predecessor of the Canon EOS 88. 35mm camera was also available on the European market under the name “Canon EOS 5000“. The 888 could only be bought in Asian countries. In the home country of Canon, Japan, and the USA it was not officially distributed.

The lenses of the SLR camera can be changed. Lenses with an EF bayonet can be used. Focusing is made easier by a built-in autofocus.

The Canon EOS 888 is equipped with a built-in light meter. It is designed for films with a sensitivity of ISO 25 to ISO 5000. The camera reads the DX code of the film cartridge and adjusts the light meter accordingly.

The correct exposure is measured through the lens. The camera uses this data for the different exposure programs. If desired, complete control of the SLR can be taken over.

The shutter speeds of the camera range from 1/2000 second to 30 seconds. There is a bulb mode for long exposures. The 35mm camera comes with a thread for a tripod. A self-timer is also built in.

For pictures with low light a flash is built in. 12 meters is the indicated range at a sensitivity of ISO 100. An external flash can be connected via hot shoe.

The camera weighs 340 grams according to the operating instructions and measures 14.5 x 9.2 x 7 cm. The power supply of the 35 mm camera is provided by two CR123A batteries (eBay / Amazon*).

Films for the Canon EOS 888

The Canon EOS 888 is equipped with 35mm film according to the operating instructions. For this film format there is still a good selection of material for color and black and white pictures. Great color pictures are possible with the Kodak Gold 200*. The AgfaPhoto APX 100* is an excellent choice for black and white pictures.

The area of the negatives of the Canon EOS 888 is 24 mm x 36 mm. This means that up to 36 pictures fit on both films. The film is transported by a motor in the camera. Up to one frame per second is possible in burst mode.
