The Canon EOS 88 is a 35mm camera. It belongs to the group of SLR cameras and was built by Canon. It followed the Canon EOS 888 and was the predecessor of the Canon EOS 66.
This model was only sold in Asia (not in Japan). In Europe, therefore also in Germany, it was also sold under the name “Canon EOS 3000”. Customers from the USA never had the benefit of this camera.
The Canon EOS 88 offers the possibility of interchangeable lenses. Lenses with an EF bayonet can be used. To focus the lens an autofocus system was built into the Canon EOS 88.
The 35mm camera has an exposure meter. It can use the exposure for films with a sensitivity from ISO 6 to ISO 6400. The camera reads the DX code of the film cartridge and sets the exposure meter accordingly.
The correct exposure is measured through the lens of the SLR camera. The Canon EOS 88 has a number of automatic exposure controls. The shutter speed and aperture can also be selected by the photographer.
The camera comes with a bulb setting option. The built-in flash provides enough light. A hot shoe is also available. The flash sync speed of the EOS 88 is 1/90 second according to the manual.
The dimensions of the 35mm camera are 14.5 x 9.2 x 6.1 cm. It weighs 345 grams. The 35mm camera is powered by two CR123A batteries (eBay / Amazon*).
Films for the Canon EOS 88
Which films does the Canon EOS 88 need? The camera needs films of the 35mm format. 35mm films are still produced today and can be developed in most laboratories. A good choice of film is Kodak Gold 200* for color pictures and Kodak TRI-X 400* for black and white pictures.
Colour film is designed for development in the C-41 process. This development process is offered by almost every photo lab.
