The Canon EOS Elan 7E is an SLR camera. It is the successor of the Canon EOS Elan IIE and was introduced in 2000. The Canon EOS Elan 7E was also sold under the names “Canon EOS 30” (Europe) and “EOS 7” (Japan).
The lenses of the Canon EOS Elan 7E can be changed. Therefore an EF bayonet was installed. Focusing is made easier by a built-in autofocus. In total there are seven autofocus points.
The special feature of this model is the eye controlled autofocus. With this you can focus on the desired place in the picture with the eye movement. This function is missing in the otherwise very similar “Canon EOS Elan 7.
The Canon EOS Elan 7E is equipped with a built-in light meter. The light meter was built for films with a sensitivity from ISO 6 to ISO 6400. The film speed is read out via the DX code on the film cartridge. All films between ISO 25 and ISO 5000 are supported in the DX automatic mode.
Exposure is measured through the lens of the 35 mm camera (TTL). The Canon EOS Elan 7E can set the aperture and exposure time automatically. For this purpose, there is a program automatic, aperture priority and aperture priority. Both the desired exposure time and the f-number can also be set by the user.
The Canon EOS Elan 7E has a bulb mode, for example for long exposures. In this mode, the shutter can remain open for a variable time and expose the film. A tripod socket for stable shooting is also available.
A built-in flash is available for low-light shooting. A hot shoe flash can also be connected. The fastest shutter speed for flash photography is 1/125 second.
Measuring 14.6 x 10.3 x 6.9 cm, the Canon EOS Elan 7E weighs 575 grams. The power supply of the 35 mm camera is provided by two CR123A batteries (eBay / Amazon*).
Films for the Canon EOS Elan 7E
The Canon EOS Elan 7E exposes 35mm film. The 35mm format is the most common film format. Therefore some manufacturers still produce for this format. A good choice for the Canon EOS Elan 7E are the Agfaphoto Vista 200* (color film) and the Ilford Delta 400* (black and white film).
The color film is processed in the C-41 process. This development process is carried out by all photo labs that offer development of 35mm film. For example, you can give your films to most drugstores for development.
The Canon EOS Elan 7E transports the film with a built-in motor. This motor takes up to four frames per second and rewinds the film back into the film cartridge at the end.
