The Canon EOS Rebel II / Canon EOS Rebel 2 is a single lens reflex camera. The 35mm camera was built by Canon and introduced in the early 1990s. It was offered on the American market. There was also the EOS Rebel II QD with data backplane (imprints the current date into the film).
The Canon EOS Rebel II is the successor of the EOS Rebel. Among other things, the noise development during rewinding the film and the speed and precision of the autofocus were improved on the Prosumer camera. In addition, the fastest shutter speed on this model is now 1/2000 second.
Under the name “Canon EOS 1000 N” the EOS Rebel II was sold in Europe.
The Canon EOS Rebel II comes with interchangeable lenses. Therefore an EF bayonet was built into the camera. The Canon EF 35-80mm f/4-5.6 USM can often be found on the Canon EOS Rebel II. The camera has an autofocus.
The Canon EOS Rebel II has a built-in light meter. It can be used with films from ISO 6 to ISO 6400. The film speed is determined by the DX code on the film cartridge. With SLR cameras, the exposure is measured through the lens. The correct exposure is automatically set by the camera (program, time, and aperture priority). The aperture and exposure time can also be freely selected.
An unusual mode is the soft focus mode. This function takes two pictures. The first shot is sharp and the second is soft.
There is a bulb mode for long exposures. An external flash can be fired via the built-in hot shoe. The self-timer has different sounds instead of a simple beep.
The power is supplied by a 6V 2CR5 battery (eBay / Amazon*).
Films for the Canon EOS Rebel II
The Canon EOS Rebel II is a film camera and is equipped with 35mm film. 35mm films are still produced today. They can be developed in most laboratories. A nice film for color pictures is Kodak Portra 160* and for black and white pictures Kodak T-Max 400*.
The full color film is processed in the C-41 process. C-41 films can be developed by most photo labs and can be sold in drugstores, for example.
The Canon EOS Rebel II is no longer manufactured. The value of a used copy is mainly measured by its condition and functionality.
