The Tesco Colour 200 represents a color negative film. The British supermarket chain Tesco sold this film under its own brand “Tesco”, whereby the production of the film material was taken over by another company.

The Tesco color film is suitable for taking color photographs. Photographs taken with this film are classic color images that realistically depict the captured scene. The film is great for vacation shots, wedding and party pictures, or family photos.

The light sensitivity of the film is specified as ISO 200. The ISO value informs about the light sensitivity of the film material. An ISO of 200 is suitable for everyday situations and is supported by most exposure meters.

Exposure of expired film stock

Under-exposed images can occur with older film stocks, especially those that have been stored in adverse conditions, as light sensitivity decreases. In some circumstances, photos may be underexposed when the specified ISO value is used. Therefore, it is advisable to select a lower ISO value on the camera.

Other aspects that can affect image quality are increased film grain, lower contrast or color deviations. Proper storage of unexposed film material can ensure subsequent image quality.

Film processing

To extract images from the exposed film, the C-41 development process is necessary. This process is offered by most photo labs. The standardized sequence of the development process is the same at all photo labs. Large drugstore chains in Germany offer a development service for this film. The result of the development is film strips that contain the captured images.

After development, prints of the photographs can be made or they can be scanned for digital use. During image development, many labs offer additional options for making prints in a variety of sizes.

Digitization

An additional option is digitizing with a scanner. Digitization of negatives can be done by quite a few photo labs. Alternatively, it is possible to purchase a scanner for private use. After digitization, the images can either be digitally processed or used in printed form.

Availability and alternatives

The Tesco Colour 200 was designed for 35mm cameras. Various manufacturers such as Lomo, Nikon, Olympus and Agfa produce cameras for the 35mm format.

New material from the film is no longer available. Alternative film stock in 35mm format would be the Kodak Gold 200*.
