The Tudor Tudorcolor XLX 200 is a color negative film. The material was probably produced by Fujifilm. In addition to the 200 film, there is also the Tudor XLX 100.

The Tudorcolor XLX 200 is designed for color photos. The data sheet specifies a sensitivity of the film of ISO 200. The light sensitivity of the film material is determined by the ISO value. A higher ISO value results in a lower amount of light needed for a correct exposure.

There is no denying the fact that most film stock that is still available for purchase today has already passed the expiration date printed on it. The manufacturer’s indication of the expiration date is merely a guarantee of the quality of the film stock and has no bearing on the usability of the film for photographic purposes.

Decreasing sensitivity of older film stock may occur due to aging or storage in a warm place. Depending on the circumstances, it may be advisable to adjust the exposure settings to a lower ISO value to prevent underexposure of the photographs. Use of expired color film can affect the color brilliance, hue shifts, and film grain of photographs. Influence on the quality of subsequent photographs can come from the storage conditions of unexposed film stock.

It is best to store the material in a cool and dry place. To avoid losses in image quality, the exposed film should be developed as soon as possible.

Developing the film

Once the film is exposed, it must be developed using the C-41 development process, identical to the AP70 and CN16 processes. The development of color negative film is offered by most photo labs in Germany. The development process is the same at all photo labs due to the standardized sequence. A service for Tudorcolor XLX 200 development is offered by major drugstore chains in Germany. At the end of the development process, you receive your own images on film strips.

This is usually followed by either digitization or the conventional production of photographic prints. When developing the images, many labs offer the possibility of making prints in various sizes as an additional option. If one plans to further process the photos digitally, one can digitize the film strips using a scanner. There are numerous devices that are suitable for digitizing negatives. Depending on the features and quality, there are different offerings for different budgets. The digitized photos can be further processed in digital form or shared on social media.

Availability and alternatives

The Tudorcolor XLX 200 could only be purchased for 35mm cameras. As a rule, 36 photos fit on a roll of film. The cartridge containing the film stock was marked with a DX code. There are manufacturers like Porst, Nikon or Rollei that offer suitable cameras for the 35mm format. But there are also other cameras that are suitable for use with the 35mm film.

The color film is no longer available. Alternative film material in the 35mm range is the Kodak Gold 200*.
