The Albert Heijn 200 is a color negative film. It was sold by the Dutch supermarket chain. The material was produced by another company. Albert Heijn is still around today, but the film has since been discontinued.

The 200 can be used to take color pictures. The recommended ISO value of the film is ISO 200, and the ISO value provides information about the exposure strength of the film as well as the use of the material in certain situations. The film’s sensitivity to light increases with higher ISO.

Expired film material

If you find a roll nowadays, printed expiration date was already passed. The guarantee of quality is indicated only by the expiration date and does not imply that the film is unusable. The light sensitivity of the film material can decrease over time, which is why storage under suitable conditions is important.

To avoid underexposure, it is recommended that the camera’s exposure meter be set to a lower sensitivity. Color films may lose color brilliance, shift hues, or exhibit more film grain over time. To avoid loss of quality in later photographs, precautions should be taken when storing unexposed film stock.

It is advisable to store the film material in a cool and dry place to ensure optimal storage conditions. Prompt development is recommended to avoid compromising the quality of the exposed film.

Developing the film

Once a film has been exposed, development is required using the C-41 process offered by most photo labs. The color negative process is standardized and can also be done at DM-Markt and Rossmann. After developing the film, you will receive the captured images in the form of film strips.

One option is to have the images printed or digitized. Many developing labs offer the option to make prints of the images.

You can use a scanner to convert negatives into digital formats. There are different devices for digitizing negatives that can vary in features and quality. By digitizing the images, you can share them on different platforms like social media or print them in different formats.

Availability and Alternatives

The ISO 200 color film was only produced in 35mm format. 24+4 images with a size of 24 x 36 mm fit on one film. The cartridge was marked with a DX code. A selection of suitable cameras for the 35mm format can be purchased from various manufacturers such as Canon, Zenit or Fujifilm.

Freshly produced material is no longer available from the Albert Heijn 200. Alternative film stock in the 35mm range is the Kodak Gold 200*.
