Walgreens Studio 35 200

The Walgreens Studio 35 200 represents a color negative film. The U.S. drugstore chain Walgreens sold photo films for hobby photographers under its own brand until the 2000s. Originally, the color films were produced by the German company Agfa, but later material from Japan (Fujifilm) was in the film cassette.

The Studio 35 200 is used to capture color images. Its nominal sensitivity is specified as ISO 200. The sensitivity of the film material to light can be determined by the ISO value. An ISO of 200 is well suited for everyday photography and is supported by most light meters.

Exposure of expired film stock

It is common for unexposed film whose production has been discontinued to have already passed the expiration date printed on it. The manufacturer’s guarantee of the film’s quality until a certain date should not be used as an indicator of whether or not the film can continue to be used.
An underexposed image may occur with older film stock that has also been stored under unfavorable storage conditions as light sensitivity decreases. There is a risk that the photos will be underexposed when using the specified ISO value. Therefore, it is recommended to set a lower ISO value on the camera.

Higher graininess of the film, lower contrasts or color deviations can have further effects on the image quality. The later quality of the photos can be ensured by proper storage of the unexposed film material.

Developing the film

To obtain images from exposed film, C-41 development is required. This development process is offered by most photo labs. The standardized sequence of the development process is identical at all photo labs. The major drugstore chains in Germany offer a film development service. The results of the development are film strips with the captured images.

Afterwards, prints of the images can be made or they can be scanned for digital purposes. When developing the images, many laboratories offer the option of making prints in different sizes as an additional service.

Digitization

Another option is digitization using a scanner. The digitization of negatives can be done by many photo labs. However, it is also possible to purchase a scanner for private use. After the photos have been digitized, they can either be digitally processed or obtained in printed form.

Availability and Alternatives

The Studio 35 200 was available for the 35mm format. A roll of film could hold 24 frames and was equipped with DX encoding. Some cameras could automatically adjust the sensitivity of the film using this encoding.

Manufacturers like Contax, Olympus or Lomography offer a selection of suitable cameras for the 35mm format. Impressive photos can be taken with these cameras.

The Walgreens Studio 35 200 is no longer in production and is therefore no longer available new. An alternative for 35mm film is the Kodak Gold 200*. This color film produces very solid photos.
