The Spector Color 200 is a color negative film that was distributed by the Belgian Spector Photo Group. However, the actual production of the film was done by another company.
As a film for classic color photography, the Spector Color 200 has an ISO sensitivity of 200. This ISO is great for everyday shooting and vacation photography.
Film processing
If you still find such film these days, it must be developed using the C-41 process in order to view the images. This can be done by submitting the film to a photo lab. The development process of color films is standardized, in contrast to black-and-white films.
In Germany, large drugstore chains offer a development service for Color 200. After successful development, one receives the developed film strips with one’s own photographs.
Afterwards, it is possible to scan and print the finished negatives or directly produce prints in various sizes. Many professional photo labs offer the option of making prints (photo prints) in different sizes during development.
Digitizing negatives into digital files
In order to use the images from the film strips digitally, it is recommended to digitize them with a scanner. On the market there are numerous devices for converting negatives and other film formats, which differ in functions and prices. After digitizing the photos, they can be further processed digitally or used as a printed version.
Availability and alternatives
The Spector Color 200 was available exclusively as 35mm film and was not available for medium format cameras.
The film cartridge of the 35mm film had a DX code that many cameras could automatically read and set the film speed accordingly.
Cameras from manufacturers such as Zenit, Rollei or Porst are suitable for the 35mm format. However, there are also other cameras that are suitable for use with 35mm film.
The color film is no longer newly produced and is no longer offered by the photo retailer. An alternative for 35mm format is Kodak Gold 200*, which is still available and gives solid results.
