The Kodak Ultra Color 100UC is a color negative film. It was introduced in 2004 and was aimed at professional users. Additionally, there was an ISO 400 variant of the film.

The Ultra Color 100UC is designed for color photos. The manufacturer specifies the sensitivity as ISO 100. An ISO of 100 is well suited for everyday use and is picked up by most light meters.

The film features two Kodak technologies, Kodak’s Color Precision and T-Grain. The “Color Precision” is said to provide realistic colors with natural skin tones. The T-Grain emulsion provides fine film grain and good sharpness. In addition, the film use a triple-coated blue emulsion to ensure consistent color and skin reproduction, even when overexposed or underexposed.

Development of the Kodak Ultra Color 100UC

After exposing the film stock, it is necessary to develop it, and for this purpose the C-41 process is used with this type of film. Unlike the development of black and white films, the C-41 development process is standardized. However, with some skill, it is possible to develop the film in your own lab. After the development is complete, film strips are available that contain the images.

There are several ways to use the images. One can either have prints made of the images or have them digitized. Professional photo labs often offer the option of making prints of the photos directly during development. For digital processing, one can use a scanner to capture the images from the film strips. This service is either offered by the lab or one can purchase a corresponding device for home use.

The digitized photos can then either be shared on social media or further processed. There are countless ways that one can digitally use and process their analog photos for use in online portfolios or print media, for example.

Availability and alternatives

Color film was available for 35mm cameras. However, it was also available in medium format.

With an image size of 24 x 36 mm, the number of images per film roll is 36. A DX code was printed on the cartridge. Via this coding, it is possible for the camera to read the sensitivity of the film material, among other things. Rollei, Kodak and Fujifilm are some of the manufacturers that offer suitable cameras for the 35mm format.

How many images fit on a roll depends on the size of the exposure area. There are many medium format cameras that can be used to expose medium format film. In the 6×6 image format, there are 12. In addition to the 120 film, there was also a 220 film with twice the length. Well known brands include Rollei, Pentax or Minolta.

The film is no longer available new. If you find an expired roll of film, you can of course use it. Otherwise, there are natural other options that are still being manufactured. An alternative in 35mm format might be the Kodak Gold 200*. An alternative in medium format is the Kodak Portra 160*.

Storage

The best place to store unexposed material is in a cool, dry place to avoid loss of quality. Prompt development of the exposed film is recommended for best results.
