The Reflx Lab 250D is a color negative film that is characterized by its versatility and special properties. It is based on the Kodak Vision3 250D film material, which was originally developed for cinema film production. This film offers photographers the opportunity to use the aesthetic qualities of cinema film for their own projects.
Information and areas of application
The Reflx Lab 250D is a daylight film with a sensitivity of ISO 250. It is particularly suitable for shooting in good lighting conditions, such as outdoors in sunshine. Due to its origins in cinema film production, the film delivers high image quality with fine details and natural skin tones.
Film formats and good cameras for film
The Reflx Lab 250D is available as both 35mm film and medium format film (120).
A wide range of analog cameras are suitable for the 35mm format, from simple viewfinder cameras to professional SLR cameras. Popular models include the Leica M6, Nikon FM2 or Olympus OM-1.
Around 36 images fit on a roll of 35mm film. The cartridge is DX-coded for ISO 200.
Cameras such as the Hasselblad 500 series, Mamiya 645 or Rolleiflex 6008 are suitable for the medium format. These cameras offer a larger negative format, which results in higher image quality and more details.
The medium format film is made from 65mm format material. For this reason, there is also perforation on the edges of the film.
In both formats, you will pay around 8.50 euros for a roll in 2024.
Development process and digitization of the negatives
The Reflx Lab 250D requires a special development process called ECN-2. This process was originally developed for developing cinema films and is different from the conventional C-41 processes for color negative films. It is important to choose a photo lab that has experience with ECN-2 development to achieve optimal results.
After development, the negatives can either be enlarged traditionally on photo paper or digitized. Special film scanners or a combination of digital camera and macro lens are suitable for digitization.
Storing the film
As with all films, it is important to store the Reflx Lab 250D in a cool, dry place to maintain the quality of the film. Ideally, the film should be stored in the refrigerator at a temperature of 4-8 degrees Celsius. Before use, the film should be slowly brought to room temperature to avoid condensation.
