The Kodak VISION3 250D is a color film. The material is manufactured by Kodak in the USA. However, it is not a film for photography, but material for motion picture production. It can be used in film cameras as a recording film.

The VISION3 250D is designed for color images. According to Kodak, VISION3 250D Color Negative Film offers a number of features that make it a versatile and powerful film for use in a variety of shooting situations:

Medium-Speed: The film has a medium sensitivity that allows it to work in a variety of lighting conditions.

Daylight-Balanced: The film is daylight-balanced, which means it can be used when shooting outdoors without color cast.

Low Grain: The film offers reduced grain, especially in dark areas, which helps keep images clear and sharp.

Wide exposure range: the film can be used with both overexposure and underexposure and still deliver impressive results.

Flexibility: the film is versatile and can be used both on set and in post-production to achieve the desired look.

Archivability: the film has high archivability and can be stored for years without losing quality.

The sensitivity of Kodak film depends on the lighting. In daylight, the value of 250 is given. In artificial light, the sensitivity drops from 64.

Development of the film

After exposure, the film must be developed. Like all Kodak color film for film production, this film is developed using the ECN-2 process. This process is very similar to the C-41 development process used for color negative film for photography.

One important factor why you can’t develop the film directly in the C-41 process when using the film for photography is the remjet coating. This special coating must be removed in a development step. This step is not provided in the C-41 development. The coating can peel off during development, contaminating the developing chemistry.

For this reason, one should never simply hand in a film with the coating to a laboratory. Before doing so, you should check with the lab to see if development is possible.

Formats of the Kodak VISION3 250D

The film is offered in different formats. Thus, it is available in the sizes 16 mm, 35 mm and 65 mm. It is supplied in metal cans as meter goods. The lengths go thereby from 30 to 305 meters. As 35 mm film in a cartridge one does not get it from Kodak directly.

Use for photography

Theoretically, the 35 mm film also fits in 35 mm cameras and not only in film cameras for movie production. Therefore, there are some suppliers who have obtained the material from Kodak and sell it to photographers. Some suppliers have already removed the remjet coating, so it can also be developed in the C-41 process. Otherwise, you have to find a lab that offers the special development (ECN-2) as well.

Storage of film stock

Optimal storage conditions are necessary to prevent possible deterioration of film stock quality. Long-term storage of film stock is recommended in a dry and cool place. To avoid quality loss, it is recommended to develop the exposed film as soon as possible.
