Fujifilm Instax Wide Link

  • Standard

The Fujifilm Instax Link Wide is a mobile photo printer for the Instax Wide format, launched in 2021. The device bridges the gap between digital photography on smartphones and classic analog instant photography.

Unlike traditional instant cameras, this printer has no lens or image sensor. Instead, image capture is done via an external mobile device, while the printer is solely responsible for exposing and outputting the analog material.

For output, the model uses the established Fujifilm Instax Wide Film. This offers an image size of 62 by 99 millimeters with a total paper sheet dimension of 86 by 108 millimeters. The format corresponds to roughly twice the area of the popular Instax Mini format.

The film is exposed by 1 internal LED unit inside the printer housing. After exposure, the film is automatically transported through 2 rollers, which evenly distribute the developer chemistry contained in the border area across the image. The chemical development process takes about 90 seconds depending on ambient temperature.

Connection to a smartphone or tablet is wireless via Bluetooth 4.2. The manufacturer provides a dedicated app for Android and iOS to control the printer. This software allows users to select digital images from the device's gallery and adjust them before printing.

The app offers 2 different color modes for output. Besides 1 natural mode for classic instant colors, there is 1 mode with higher color saturation. Additionally, templates, text, and 1 QR code can be integrated into the image. Such a QR code can contain links to websites, audio data, or location information.

The housing measures approximately 139 by 127 by 33 millimeters and weighs about 340 grams without a film cassette. It is available in Ash White and Mocha Gray. 1 built-in lithium-ion battery serves as the power source and is charged via 1 Micro USB cable. A full battery charge is sufficient for outputting about 100 pictures. The actual printing process takes about 12 seconds before the chemical development begins outside the device in the air.

The printer is aimed at users who want to use the wide format of Instax without having to carry one of the relatively large instant cameras. Digital input retains control over sharpness, exposure, and subject selection. The cost per print corresponds to the regular prices for Instax Wide films. Thus, the device combines digital capture methods with the tactile result of an analog instant picture.
