The Fujifilm Instax Wide Film is an instant film. With it and an Instax Wide camera, you can take color photos. After a few minutes, you have the finished photo in your hand. It cannot be used in old Polaroid cameras.
Using the film is usually straightforward. The first step is to insert the film cartridge into the camera, a process that is quite simple. To prepare the film for shooting, you need to press the shutter once. This removes the so-called darkslide, a cardboard piece that protects the film from light.
After this preparation, you can start photography. Simply press the shutter button and the camera takes care of the rest. It ejects the just-captured image, which develops automatically. After a short waiting time, which varies depending on the film type and ambient temperature, you can hold the finished image in your hands.
The images are characterized by rich, beautiful colors, fine grain, and fairly good sharpness. The colors of the film are realistic and reproduce the characteristics of the subject accordingly.
Regarding the comparison with other formats, it is noteworthy that this film format is more similar to Polaroid's Spectra/Image format. This format is known for its wider image area compared to other Polaroid formats, allowing for larger image composition. It is less comparable to a Polaroid 600 photo, which has a square format with a smaller image area.
Usually, the instant film is sold in a double pack (Instax Wide Film*). With one cartridge, you can press the shutter 10 times before needing a new film. Unlike the American company Polaroid, the instant film pioneer, Fujifilm still produces this film.
In addition to the color film, there is also a variant for black and white photos.

Official Fujifilm models include the classics of the Wide series like the Instax Wide 100, 200, 210, and 300, the newer Instax Wide 400, as well as the Instax 500AF with autofocus, which is especially appreciated by analog enthusiasts.
Furthermore, the wide format can be used in creative and manual alternative cameras: Particularly well-known are the Lomo'Instant Wide from Lomography, the high-quality rangefinder camera MiNT InstantKon RF70, as well as large format cameras (4×5 inches) adapted with the special Lomography LomoGraflok back for Instax Wide. Modular cameras like the Lomography Belair X 6-12 can also be retrofitted with a corresponding instant back for this film.
