The Polaroid 600 Hello Kitty Strawberry Kawaii presents itself as an edition of an instant camera from Polaroid, which was launched by Retrospekt in November 2023. This is not the first collaboration between Sanrio, the company behind Hello Kitty, and the US company. The “Strawberry Kawaii Collection” also includes a 35mm camera and a mobile cassette player.
The camera is based on the original Polaroid One Step Flash and has undergone a comprehensive overhaul and functional test before being given a new look.
Design of the camera
The basic colour of the camera is white, with the iconic Hello Kitty emblazoned in a large pink oval on the front. Kitty sits on a bright yellow star surrounded by other stars in different sizes and pastel colours.
Her characteristic red bow adorns her head, while her cheerful face beams at the viewer with big eyes and a smile.
Details such as her white gloves and tiny nose are neatly drawn.
The rest of the camera is plain white, with the exception of the black lens and the grey shutter release.
The “Polaroid” lettering can be found in a subtle light grey below the lens, while “Hello Kitty” can be found in bright pink directly above the handle.
Features of the camera
The camera is equipped with a fixed lens and has neither a zoom nor an adjustable focal length. There is also no manual focus setting. The exposure settings are taken over by the built-in light meter, whereby slight adjustments can be made using the light/dark slider on the front.
The limited setting options contribute to uncomplicated handling, so that photos can be taken with the camera without any problems even after a brief introduction.
The built-in flash provides sufficient light for taking pictures and triggers automatically. The camera and flash are powered by a battery in the film cassette, which is replaced every time the film is changed. Additional batteries are not required for photography.
Films for the Polaroid 600 Hello Kitty Strawberry Kawaii
The compatible films for the Polaroid 600 Hello Kitty Strawberry Kawaii continue to be produced and offer a wide selection. Films are available for black and white and colour shots. The film for colour photos is called Polaroid Color Film for 600*. The Polaroid B&W Film for 600* is required for monochrome pictures with the instant camera.
A film cassette contains eight images and a new cassette must be inserted once this has been used up. Film material is not included in the scope of delivery. The development time varies between 5 and 15 minutes depending on the film.
