Washi A

The A film is a black and white film. The material is used as protection during the reproduction process of motion pictures. But it is also used as film for subtitles. The emulsion is orthochromatic and has a spectral sensitivity of up to 580nm. The film is cast on a 120 μm strong polyester carrier.

In pictorial photography it is characterized by its strong contrasts with very fine grain. The film sensitivity is specified with only ISO 12. Therefore the film should be used with a camera with a fast lens if possible.

In order to avoid light incidence on the first pictures, the film should be placed in the camera in the shadow.

The Washi A is available as 35mm film in cartridges (135-36) and by the meter.

Washi D

Originally, the film material for the Washi D was offered for air surveillance and cartography. The negative film has a panchromatic emulsion. It was coated on polyester (75 μm). Therefore you should also be careful when inserting it into the camera. If possible, put the film in the camera in the shade and do not take too important pictures on the first pictures.

The Washi D’s sensitivity is specified as ISO 500. The film has to be developed in a black-and-white developer, such as Rodinal, just like the other films. With an appropriate developer it can be pushed up to ISO 1600. Due to the clear carrier, it can also be developed as slide film.

The Washi D is also characterized by images with high contrast. But it has a stronger and more visible grain.

The film is also only available for 35 mm cameras.

Washi S

Washi Film S is a film used in film production for sound recording. This application requires very fine grain and ultra-high resolution. This sharpness is guaranteed by a special anti-halogenation layer, which is located between the film base and the emulsion layer, whereas in normal films it is normally located in the back layer.

The emulsion is panchromatic and industrial on a 120 μm strong polyester carrier. The film speed is specified at ISO 50.

The Washi S is available for 35mm and medium format cameras.

Washi W film is available as 35mm, medium format (120, 620) and flat film (4×5″, 5×7″, 8×10″).

Washi Z

The underlying footage for the Washi Z was produced for mapping vegetation from the air. Therefore, the film has a spectral sensitization of up to 750 nm and thus reaches almost into the infrared spectrum. It is cast on a polyester carrier with a thickness of 100 μm.

In contrast to the other Washi films, it is characterized by moderate contrasts. It is well suited for landscape photography, as it is able to separate the green tones well. The sensitivity is specified at ISO 400.

You can buy it as 35mm film. The cartridge is sufficient for 24 pictures and has no DX coding.
