The Lucky BR 100 is a color negative film. It was offered by the China Lucky Film Corporation.

The BR 100 was designed to produce color images. According to the technical data sheet, the film has a sensitivity of ISO 100. An ISO value of 100 is quite suitable for pictures taken in everyday life or leisure. Optimal results are held, for example, when shooting on a sunny day.

Exposure of expired color film

It is possible to find rolls of Chinese film today, even though they may have already passed their printed expiration date. However, this does not necessarily mean that the film can no longer be used for photography. The expiration date only serves as an indication of the guaranteed quality of the film material by the manufacturer.

Older film stock may experience a decrease in sensitivity due to aging or storage in a warm location. This means that the film may no longer be as sensitive to light as specified. This may result in underexposure when using the film at the specified ISO. For this reason, it is recommended to set a lower ISO value on the camera to ensure proper exposure.

Additionally, the quality of photos taken with expired color film may be compromised. This can manifest itself in color shifts, lower contrast, or higher film grain. It is important to note that this is not always the case and depends on various factors such as storage conditions and the type of film.

To avoid deterioration in the quality of the film stock, it is recommended that it be stored under optimal conditions. This includes a cool and dry environment, away from direct sunlight or humid conditions. Good storage can help the film retain its quality and performance longer.

Developing the Lucky BR 100

Lucky BR 100 color film is developed using the C-41 development chemistry. The C-41 development process is offered by the vast majority of laboratories. Alternatively, with some skill and the appropriate photochemistry, you can develop the color film yourself. At the end of the development process, you get the film strips with your own images.

The next step is to digitize the negatives or make prints from them. Many developing laboratories directly offer the service of making prints in different sizes.

A scanner can be used to digitize the negatives. There are a variety of devices on the market that are suitable for digitizing negatives. These differ in price and functionality. After digitization, the files can be shared on various social media platforms or used in printed form.

Availability and alternatives

The BR 100 was produced in 35mm format. This is the most common film format and there are a lot of available cameras. There are even still cameras produced for the 35mm format.

The production of color film, on the other hand, has ended. A possible replacement in the 35mm range is the Kodak Gold 200*. Of course, the film does not deliver identical results.
