The Lucky SHD 400 NEW is a black and white film. It was offered by the Chinese company China Lucky Film Corporation from the city of Baoding in Hebei province.
The Lucky SHD 400 NEW allows black and white images. The emulsion is panchromatic sensitized. An ISO value of 400 is specified for the film’s sensitivity.
In addition to the Lucky SHD 400 NEW, there was also the Lucky SHD 100 NEW and the Lucky SHD 400 CN. The latter is a chromogenic black and white film and must be developed using the C-41 process.
Development of the film
A developer for black and white film is needed to develop the SHD 400 NEW film. There is the option of either having it developed in photo labs or doing it yourself at home with the appropriate accessories. When choosing a film developer, it should be taken into account that it can affect the appearance of the images.
In Kodak developer D-76, the development time is 7-10 minutes at a temperature of 20℃.
If no specific developer recommendations are available for the SHD 400 NEW developer, one should try different developers if needed. After the development process is complete, one has the film strips with one’s images. It is possible to digitize the negatives or make prints from them. Many developing labs offer the option to make prints of the images as well.
To process the images in digital form, the analog film strips can be digitized with a scanner. There are a variety of devices that are suitable for digitizing negatives. Depending on the features and quality, different options are available for different budgets. The digitized photos can then be further processed or shared on social media.
Availability and Alternatives
The SHD 400 NEW was only available in 35mm film. It can fit 36 images on a roll of film. There is a DX code on the cartridge of the 35mm film. It is possible for modern cameras to read the code applied to the film and automatically set the appropriate film speed. Manufacturers such as Agfa, Mamiya and Fujifilm offer suitable models for the 35 mm format.
The B/W film is no longer in new production. An alternative for the 35mm format is the Kodak T-Max 400*.
