Lucky SHD 100 is a black and white film. It was produced by China Lucky Film Corporation in the city of Baoding. The film is the predecessor of the Lucky SHD 100 NEW.
The Lucky SHD 100 is specifically designed for black and white photography and features panchromatic sensitization. The film has a stated sensitivity of ISO 100, and the ISO value allows you to determine the film’s sensitivity to light. A higher ISO value means a greater sensitivity of the film to light. Therefore, the Lucky SHD 100 offers better performance in bright environments than in darker environments due to its characteristics.
Developing the film
SHD 100 film requires development in a special black and white developer. Development can either be done in a photo lab, or you have the option of developing the film yourself, which allows greater control over the outcome. The image impression in terms of contrast, film grain, and grayscale can vary depending on the developing chemistry used.
Since there are no specific development instructions for the combination of film and developer, it is advisable to use similar film material as a guide or to be open to experimentation. After development, film strips containing the captured images are produced. The finished negatives can either be used for prints or digitized for digital purposes. Many developing labs offer direct creation of prints in various sizes as a service.
Digitizing the Lucky SHD 100
For the digital processing of the images, the digitization of the analog film strips with a scanner is suitable. There are different scanner models with different functions and qualities, suitable for different budgets. After digitization, the files can be printed in various formats or shared on social media platforms.
Availability and alternatives
The SHD 100 was available for 35mm cameras. It fit 36 images on a roll of film. It was supplied in a black, white and blue box. The cartridge containing the film stock was marked with a DX code. It is possible to expose the film in many different 35mm cameras.
The B&W film is no longer available new. The AgfaPhoto APX 100* could be a replacement for 35mm film. This film gives solid results, but of course is not exactly comparable to the characteristics of the Chinese film.
