The Lomo’Instant Automat Opbeni is an instant camera. It was introduced by Lomography in January 2024. It is a version of the Lomo’Instant Automat. The exterior was designed by the artist Opbeni. In addition to this camera, there is also a Lomo’Instant Edition.
Opbeni and the design of the camera
Opbeni is a Taiwanese artist known for her work with porcelain. She studied sculpture and then deepened her knowledge of ceramics in Jingdezhen, China.
The design of the Lomo’Instant Automat Glass is a tribute to the beauty and elegance of porcelain. The camera is kept in a delicate white colour and decorated with floral motifs inspired by traditional Chinese painting. Golden accents give the camera a sophisticated look.
Features of the instant camera
The Lomo’Instant Automat is an instant camera that allows both beginners and experienced photographers to have fun and be creative when taking pictures.
With automatic exposure, bulb mode for long exposures, multiple exposures and zone focus, the camera offers a wide range of options for creative experimentation.
Remote shutter release, flash and interchangeable lenses extend the camera’s functions. Various colour filters enable unique effects.
Films for the Lomo’Instant Automat Opbeni
The LomoInstant Automat Opbeni requires Instax Mini films for photography, which are specially manufactured by Fujifilm for this format.
The Instax Mini format is considered the smallest instant format on the market, with the dimensions of an image being 8.6 x 5.4 cm. The image area is 62 x 46 mm and is approximately the size of a business card.
The instant photos are contained in a cassette that is inserted into the camera as a whole. A pack usually contains 10 shots, and when the frame counter shows “0”, the film needs to be changed. Each image usually costs around 70 cents.
After exposure, the camera ejects the image and within minutes the image appears as if from nowhere. The image quality of the colour films (Instax Mini Film*) is impressive. The white frames around the image can be customised with pens and stickers.
The Instax Mini Monochrome* is available for black and white images. There are also some special editions of the colour film with printed frames. The Instax Mini format is particularly suitable for events such as parties or weddings.
