Hanalogital Opal

Hanalogital Opal is a color negative film. It is sold under the German brand Hanalogital. This is an effect film. It was produced normally as a color film by a film manufacturer and then treated by Hanalogital.

This film is a soup film. “Soup film” is an experimental film that has been exposed to various substances. To achieve the desired effects, it was completely or partially immersed in a liquid beforehand. The film was then dried again so that it could be used in the camera.

A shimmer with various colors lies over the images. This effect appears to varying degrees in the images.

When exposing the film, it should be noted that the effects show a variation. They can of course be influenced by the exposure settings or even the camera chosen. Thus, each image is to some extent a surprise.

Developing the film

The C-41 process is used for this type of film to develop the film stock after exposure. The C-41 development process, unlike the development of black and white film, is standardized. Unlike black-and-white film, the development process for color film is standardized. The film strips with the captured photos are the final product of the development.

The Hanalogital Opal can be given for development e.g. at Rossmann or DM-Markt.

In the following, one can either make prints from the negatives or digitize them for digital applications. It is common with most developing laboratories to offer directly as a service the creation of prints in various sizes.

Digitizing the negatives

One way to get Hanalogital Opal negatives into digital form is to digitize them with a scanner. There is a wide range of equipment available to digitize negatives. The offerings vary in features and quality, and there are suitable options for every budget. After digitizing photos, you can edit them in Photoshop and share them on social media.

Formats

You can only buy Opal for 35mm cameras. With one roll of the color film, you can press the camera shutter 36 times. There is no version for medium format cameras.

Suitable cameras for this format are available from many manufacturers. A good combination with this photo film is for example a camera from Lomography. But interesting pictures can also be taken with an SLR camera.
