Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 Minion

The Fujifilm Minion Instax Mini 8 is a special edition instant camera resulting from a collaboration between Fujifilm and the popular Minions series. It was introduced in 2017.

This limited edition camera features a unique design with a darker shade of yellow than the standard Instax range, Minions branding instead of the usual Instax logo, and a Minion character illustration underneath.

The camera’s design features a darker shade of yellow, reminiscent of the Minions’ iconic skin color. On the front there is the well-known Minions logo as well as illustrations of the lovable characters.

A black lens edge provides an attractive contrast to the yellow housing and gives the camera a touch of elegance. A removable stand in the shape of a pair of jeans allows the camera to be set up, providing a practical option for group photos or self-portraits.

Particularly noteworthy is the special lens cap in Minions design, which makes the camera a real collector’s item. The packaging of the Instax Mini 8 Minion is also a real eye-catcher. The cute box shows the Minions in different poses and is fun to unpack.

Another highlight is the humorous sticker on the back of the camera, which depicts an interaction between a real Minion and the Instax Minion camera

Overview of the functions

The camera’s functionality is identical to that of other Instax Mini 8 cameras. The Instax Mini 8 makes photography a breeze: with a single touch it comes to life, and a gentle tap on the lens returns it to sleep mode.

Thanks to its intelligent modes that adapt to the lighting conditions and the practical LED display that recommends which mode to choose, it is ready for any situation. Simply turning the lens is enough to switch between modes.

The viewfinder serves as a rough guide for the image section, while an operating manual is in most cases unnecessary because handling is intuitive.

The Instax Mini 8 from Fujifilm is equipped with a built-in flash that fires automatically with every shot and has a range of up to 2.7 meters. There is no provision for manually deactivating the flash.

Thanks to its optimal image section, the camera is particularly suitable for portraits and selfies, while a small mirror next to the lens helps when creating self-portraits.

Features such as a tripod mount, remote shutter release and self-timer are not available on the Instax Mini 8.

There is a practical frame counter on the back that shows the remaining shots. Eyelets on the side allow you to attach a hand strap or camera strap.

Films for the instant camera

The Instax Mini 8 is specifically designed for the Instax Mini format, for which Fujifilm produces the appropriate instant film. The color film is the Instax Mini Film*.

With an image size of 8.6 x 5.4 cm, the instant photos in the Instax Mini format are the smallest on the market. Each image is 62 x 46 mm, while the rest form the characteristic frame. A debit card can serve as a size comparison for an Instax Mini image.

The instant images are stored in a cassette that is inserted into the camera. Each cassette contains ten images and once the image counter shows zero, a cassette change is required. The cost per image is approximately 70 cents.

Images only take a few minutes to develop, and the Instax Mini 8’s color films offer intense colors. The white frame can be decorated as desired with pens and stickers.

The Instax Mini Monochrome* is available for black and white recordings. The Instax Mini format is often used at weddings and in scrapbooking.
