The Fujifilm Instax Mini 9 Frozen 2 is a special edition. It was introduced in 2019. In terms of functionality, it is based on the normal Instax Mini 9. In addition, a suitable edition of the color film was presented.
Design of Frozen 2
The camera is a light blue Instax Mini 9 with a white lens ring. The Disney Frozen II logo can be seen in the top right corner on the front of the camera. A print of water spirit Nokk on the side. There is a picture of the main character Elsa on the back. The image is on the dark blue film door.
Instant camera functions
The Instax Mini 9 is effortless to use: a press of a button next to the lens brings it to life, while a slight push on the lens puts it back to sleep mode. Five different shooting modes (Indoors, Cloudy, Sunny, Very Sunny, Hi-Key) are available, with a small LED indicating the camera’s recommended mode.
Particularly noteworthy is the Hi-Key mode, which is adjusted by rotating the lens and produces delicate, bright images. The viewfinder provides an approximate preview of the eventual image as it is not directly connected to the lens. An operating manual is usually unnecessary.
The Fujifilm Instax Mini 9 has a built-in flash that fires automatically and has a range of up to 2.7 m. It is not possible to deactivate the flash. The image section is ideal for portraits and selfies, but without a zoom function. A small mirror next to the lens makes it easier to take self-portraits.
A close-up lens is available for close-ups from a distance of 30 cm to the subject. You shouldn’t rely solely on the viewfinder, as it can differ slightly from the actual image section when taking close-up photos. The Instax Mini 9 does not offer a tripod, a remote shutter release or a self-timer function.
On the back there is the frame counter, which shows the number of shots remaining. There are eyelets on the sides that allow you to attach a loop or camera strap.
Instant film for the camera
The Fujifilm Instax Mini 9 Frozen 2 is specially designed for the Instax Mini format, for which Fujifilm produces the appropriate instant film. This format is the smallest available and is half the size of the Instax Wide format. One image measures 8.6 x 5.4 cm, with the actual photo measuring 62 x 46 mm and the rest forming the frame. A debit card serves as a size comparison for an Instax Mini image.
The instant photos are in a cassette that is inserted into the camera. One cassette is enough for ten pictures. If the frame counter shows zero, the cartridge needs to be replaced. The cost per image is around 70 cents.
After the image is ejected from the camera, development time only takes a few minutes. The images taken with the color film (Instax Mini Film*) are characterized by their high-contrast colors. The white frame around the pictures can be decorated with pens and stickers as desired.
The Instax Mini Monochrome* is available for black and white images. The Instax Mini format is particularly suitable for weddings and scrapbooking.
