Canon EOS REBEL SII QD

The Canon EOS REBEL SII QD is a 35mm SLR camera with a multi-mode autofocus system. The image format is 24×36 mm and the camera has an EF mount for lenses. The standard lens supplied is the EF 35-80mm f/4-5.6, but the camera is also compatible with other EF lenses.

The autofocus system of the EOS REBEL SII QD is based on TTL phase detection and offers various autofocus modes, including One-Shot AF and Predictive AI Servo AF with automatic switching. The autofocus operating range at ISO 100 is between EV 1 and 18.

The camera’s shutter is an electronic vertical focal plane shutter. The shutter speeds range from 30 seconds to 1/2000 second, including the bulb setting for long exposures. The X-Sync takes place at 1/90 second via the hot shoe. In addition, the camera has a built-in electronic self-timer with a signal tone and selectable melodies by Vivaldi, Beethoven and Bach.

The viewfinder of the EOS REBEL SII QD is a fixed eye-level pentaprism viewfinder with 0.75x magnification and 90% coverage. Various information is displayed in the viewfinder, including the autofocus mark, focus indicator, partial metering circle, depth-of-field AE, shutter speed, aperture position, flash ready, soft focus value, AE lock, exposure compensation, manual exposure level and red-eye reduction lamp.

Exposure is metered and controlled via a composite SPC sensor for TTL full aperture metering. Various exposure programmes are available, including Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, Intelligent Program AE, Depth of Field AE and Manual Exposure. Exposure compensation is possible in the range of ±2 EV in steps of 1/2 aperture, and exposure metering is carried out in the range of EV 2 to 20 at ISO 100 and f/1.4. The film speed range is between ISO 6 and 6400.

The external LCD display shows information such as shutter speed, aperture, soft focus value, film speed, film status indicator, manual exposure level, sound setting number and indicator, depth of field AE, battery check and other indications.

The EOS REBEL SII QD has a built-in flash, which is placed on the pentaprism bulge. The flash can be flipped out manually and offers TTL flash control with off-the-film metering. Red-eye reduction is also available and the guide number is 14 at ISO 100 in metres.

Measuring 14.8 x 10 x 6.9 cm, the Canon EOS REBEL SII QD weighs 470 grams according to the instructions. The camera requires a 2CR5 battery (eBay / Amazon*), which supplies the power for all functions.

Films for the Canon EOS REBEL SII QD

According to the operating instructions, the Canon EOS REBEL SII QD requires 35mm film. 35mm films are still produced today. They can be developed in most laboratories. For black and white images, you can use Ilford FP4 Plus*. For colour images, the Kodak Gold 200* is an option. Of course, you can also use films from other manufacturers.

The film is loaded and advanced by aligning the film guide with the mark and closing the back of the camera for forward loading. First, the entire film is wound onto the spool, and each time an image is captured, the film is fed back into the cartridge. The film is transported by the built-in motor and the film advance speed is 1 frame per second. After the last image has been exposed, the film is automatically rewound.
