The Canon EOS Elan is a single lens reflex camera. The 35mm camera was also available on the European market under the name “Canon EOS 100”. In there was the SLR as EOS 100 QD (with data back for date exposure) and EOS 100 Panorama (with panorama functionality).
The Canon EOS Elan offers the possibility of interchangeable lenses. This is made possible by the EF bayonet. In most cases you will find the Canon EF 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 USM on the 35mm camera. The Canon EOS Elan has a built-in autofocus system.
The camera is equipped with an autofocus system. According to Canon, it is the first autofocus camera to incorporate the concept of silent operation. The newly developed silent mechanisms reduced film transport and winding noise by up to half compared to previous models.
Photography is made easier by the built-in exposure meter. It is designed for an ISO range from 6 to 6400. The camera uses the DX code to determine the correct film speed. The light meter is designed to measure the exposure through the camera lens.
The Canon EOS Elan has different exposure modes. Among others, program mode, aperture priority mode and aperture priority mode are available. The desired shutter speed can also be set manually. The aperture is also freely selectable.
The shutter supports exposure times from 1/4000 second to 30 seconds. A bulb mode is available for long exposures.
The built-in flash provides sufficient light. The flash sync speed is 1/125 second. An external flash can be connected via the hot shoe.
In the Canon EOS Elan a thread for a tripod is built in. There is also a self-timer.
The dimensions of the 35 mm camera are 15.4 x 10.5 x 6.9 cm. It weighs 580 grams. The power supply of the 35 mm camera is provided by a 6V 2CR5 battery (eBay / Amazon*).
Films for the Canon EOS Elan
Which films are required for the Canon EOS Elan? The camera is designed for 35mm films. The 35mm format is very common, therefore there are still some manufacturers and many development laboratories. One possibility for color pictures is the Kodak Gold 200* and the Ilford Delta 100* for black and white photos.
The color film is processed in the C-41 process. The C-41 process is standardized and is offered by most developing laboratories. Most drugstore chains in Germany offer the development of color films.
The film is transported automatically.
