The Canon EOS 100 is a camera from Canon. It is an SLR camera that was introduced in the early 90s. On the American market this model was sold under the name “Canon EOS Elan”.
A similar model was available in Japan as EOS 100 QD (with data back for date exposure) and EOS 100 Panorama (with panorama functionality).
The lenses of the Canon EOS 100 are interchangeable. Therefore an EF bayonet was built into the camera. In most cases it was sold with the Canon EF 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 USM. With this lens the new price was 118.000 Yen.
The camera is equipped with an autofocus. According to Canon, it is considered the first autofocus camera to incorporate the concept of silent operation. The newly developed silent mechanisms reduced the film transport and rewind noise by up to half compared to previous models.
The camera has a built-in light meter. This is designed for an ISO range from 6 to 6400. The correct ISO value is read by the DX code on the film cartridge and the light meter is set accordingly. The correct exposure is measured through the lens of the SLR camera. The aperture and exposure time are set automatically by the camera (aperture, shutter speed and program automatic). The photographer can select the aperture and exposure time as desired.
The Canon EOS 100 has a bulb mode, for example for long exposures. The shutter can remain open for a variable time and expose the film.
For shots in low light conditions there is a built-in flash. The flash depends on the set focal length. There is also a hot shoe for an external flash. The flash sync speed is 1/125 second.
The camera weighs 580 grams and measures 15.4 x 10.5 x 6.9 cm. The power source of the 35mm camera is a 6V 2CR5 battery (eBay / Amazon*).
Films for the Canon EOS 100
The Canon EOS 100 requires 35mm film. These films are still in production and can be quoted at almost every supplier of development work. The Agfaphoto Vista 200* is a possible color film for the Canon EOS 100, black and white pictures are possible with the Ilford XP2 Super*.
The color negative film is developed in the C-41 development process. This development process is offered by most laboratories.
The negatives of the Canon EOS 100 have a size of 24 mm x 36 mm. This means that at least 36 photos fit onto a 36 frame 35 mm film. The film in the camera is automatically rewound to the next frame.
