The Canon EOS 500N is a camera from Canon from the 90s. It followed the Canon EOS 500 and was the predecessor of the Canon EOS 300. 35mm photo camera was also sold under the name “Canon EOS Rebel G” (America) and “EOS New Kiss” (Japan).
The Canon EOS 500N comes with interchangeable lenses. Therefore an EF bayonet was built into the camera. The Canon EOS 500N has a built-in autofocus system.
The Canon EOS 500N has a built-in light meter. It is designed for films in a range from ISO 25 to ISO 5000. The camera reads the DX code of the film cartridge and sets the light meter accordingly.
In SLR cameras, the exposure is measured through the lens. This data is used for the different programs. A manual mode is also available for complete control.
The camera has shutter speeds from 1/2000 second to 30 seconds and comes with a bulb mode. There is a built-in flash for taking pictures in low light. At ISO 100, the range is 12 meters. An external flash can be used with the 35 mm camera via hot shoe. The 35 mm camera has a self-timer. There is also a thread for a tripod.
The dimensions of the Canon EOS 500N are 14.6 x 9.2 x 6.2 cm according to the manual. It weighs 400 grams. The camera needs two CR123A batteries (eBay / Amazon*).

Which films are required for the Canon EOS 500N? The camera is designed for 35mm films. These are still easy to get today and are still being developed. A good choice for the Canon EOS 500N are the Fujifilm Superia 400* (color film) and the Ilford FP4 Plus* (black and white film).
The negatives of the Canon EOS 500N are 24 mm x 36 mm. So at least 36 photos fit on a 36 frame 35mm film.
