The Canon EOS 1000 is a 35mm camera. It belongs to the group of SLR cameras and was introduced by the Japanese company in the early 90s. The model was produced in Taiwan. Customers in America could buy the model under the name “Canon EOS Rebel”.

The EOS 1000 is the predecessor of the Canon EOS 1000 N. With a data backplate, for imaging the date, it was available under the designation EOS 1000 QD. A similar model with built-in flash was available under the designation, EOS Rebel S and EOS 1000F. The latter was also available with a data backplane called EOS 1000F QD. In Japan, they were also available with a panorama function under the name “EOS 1000F QD-P”.

The lenses of the Canon EOS 1000 are interchangeable. Therefore an EF bayonet was built into the camera. The camera has an autofocus.

The 35mm camera has an exposure meter. It was designed for taking pictures with films with a sensitivity of ISO 6 to ISO 6400. The film speed is determined by the DX code on the film cartridge. The exposure is measured through the lens of the 35 mm camera (TTL).

The Canon EOS 1000 can automatically set the aperture and exposure time. The aperture and shutter speed can also be freely selected.

The camera supports exposure times up to 1/1000 second and has a bulb setting. With the bulb setting, the shutter remains open as long as the photographer keeps the shutter release button pressed. An external flash unit can be connected via hot shoe. The flash sync speed is 1/90 second.

The power source of the 35mm camera is a 6V 2CR5 battery (eBay / Amazon*).

The self-timer (12 seconds) can play any music instead of a beeping countdown.

Films for the Canon EOS 1000

In the Canon EOS 1000 cartridges are exposed with 35mm film. 35mm film is still produced by different manufacturers. For color pictures there is the Agfaphoto Vista 400*, for black and white pictures the Ilford FP4 Plus*.

The color film is a negative film and is processed in the C-41 development process. This development process is available in almost every photo lab. The development of a 35mm color film is for example possible in most drugstore chains in Germany.

The film is automatically transported and wound back into the cartridge.

The production of the Canon EOS 1000 has been stopped. Today you only find it used. The condition and the scope of delivery determine the price.
