Nikon F Series

Nikon F2 Photomic SB

The Nikon F2 Photomic SB is a single lens reflex camera. It was built between 1976 and 1977 by Nikon. This version of the professional camera comes with the DP-3 viewfinder.

The lens of the Nikon F2 Photomic SB is exchangeable. For this purpose the camera is equipped with a Nikon F lens mount. Often the camera comes with the Nikkor 50 mm f/1.4. This lens mount was developed in the 1950s. After that time it became the standard at Nikon and was not abandoned with the introduction of an autofocus.

Lenses are not just made by Nikon itself but also other brands. But not all modern camera lenses can be used with the old film cameras. The Nikon F2 Photomic SB has no autofocus. It is manually focused.

The Nikon F2 Photomic SB has an integrated light meter. It can be used for films in an ISO range of 12 to 6400. Exposure is measured through the lens of the SLR camera. The desired exposure time as well as the number of f-stops can be set by the user.

The 35mm camera has a bulb mode. The shutter stays open as long as desired. An external flash can be used via the PC flash socket. The Nikon F2 Photomic SB has a thread for a tripod and cable release. It also has a self-timer.

At a weight of 850 grams the size of the Nikon F2 Photomic SB is 15,2 x 10,2 x 6,6 cm. The power supply is provided by two LR44 batteries (eBay / Amazon*).

Films for the Nikon F2 Photomic SB

The Nikon F2 Photomic SB needs photo film, more precisely 35mm film. 35mm films are still produced today and are quite easy to get. One option for b/w images is the AgfaPhoto APX 400*. A possible film for color pictures is the Agfaphoto Vista 200*.

The colour film is a colour negative film and must be developed in the C-41 process. This is offered by almost every photo lab.

The negatives of Nikon F2 Photomic SB are 24 mm x 36 mm big. The film in the camera must be winded manually by the photographer.
