Canon EOS 66

The Canon EOS 66 is a single lens reflex camera. The 35mm camera was built by Canon and introduced in 2002. It is the successor of the Canon EOS 88. The Canon EOS 66 was also sold under the names "Canon EOS 3000N" and "EOS Rebel XS N". It was also available with a data back, which could "save" the date of the shot into the image.

The EOS 66 was designed for the beginner market in Asia. In Canon's home market, Japan, the camera was not sold.

The lenses of the Canon EOS 66 are interchangeable. Lenses with an EF bayonet can be used. Manual focusing is not necessary with the 35mm camera. It comes with an autofocus system.

The 35 mm camera has an exposure meter. It is designed for shooting with films with a sensitivity of ISO 6 to ISO 6400. The film sensitivity is determined by the DX code on the film cartridge. Only values from ISO 25 to IS0 5000 are possible. This covers a wide range of film speeds.

The light meter is designed to measure the exposure through the camera lens. The Canon EOS 66 has several exposure modes and sets aperture and exposure time automatically if desired. The desired shutter speed can also be set manually. The aperture is also freely selectable.

The camera comes with a bulb mode. In this mode, the film is exposed as long as the shutter release button is pressed. The fastest regular shutter speed is 1/2000 second.

The built-in flash can be used in low light conditions. This has a range of 12 meters according to the manual for films with an ISO 100 sensitivity, but the EOS 66 can also be used with an external flash unit. Both radio trigger and normal attachable flashes can be connected to the Hot Shoe. Note that the fastest shutter speed for flash photography is 1/90 second.

The dimensions of the Canon EOS 66 are 14.5 x 9.2 x 6.1 cm. It weighs 350 grams. The power supply of the 35 mm camera is provided by two CR123A batteries (eBay / Amazon*).

Films for the Canon EOS 66

For the Canon EOS 66 photo films are required. Films for the 35mm format are needed. These are still easy to get today and are still being developed. Great color photos are possible with the Agfaphoto Vista 400*. The Ilford FP4 Plus* is an excellent choice for black and white pictures.

The color negative film is developed in the C-41 development process. This is offered by almost every photo lab. The big drugstore chains in Germany offer something like this for the development of color films.

With this size 36 pictures fit on a 35mm film. The camera has an integrated motor for film transport. When loading, the camera winds the complete film onto a spool and rewinds it back into the camera after each frame. This way no photos are lost if the camera is opened by mistake.
