The Zenit 312M is an SLR camera. It was developed by KMZ in Russia and presented in the 90s. It is the successor of the Zenit-122, later followed by the Zenit 412DX. The body of the camera is black and made of ABS plastic.
The lenses of the Zenit 312M can be changed. Lenses for the M42 thread can be used. In most cases it was sold with the MC Zenitar-M2s 2/50. M42 lenses are attached to the camera by screw thread. The lens thread was developed by Carl Zeiss in Jena. Some major manufacturers of M42 lenses were Zeiss, Pentax, Pentacon and Zenit/KMZ.
The Zenit 312M does not have an autofocus. It is focused manually. Some practice is needed for fast focusing.
The Zenit 312M has a built-in light meter. The correct exposure is measured through the lens. A Bulb setting is available on the camera. In this mode, the shutter will be open as long as the shutter button is pressed. An external flash can be connected to the hot shoe.
Films for the Zenit 312M
The Zenit 312M is designed for 35mm format. 35mm films are still produced by various manufacturers. Possible films for the model are the Kodak Ultramax 400* for color photos and the Ilford HP5* for B&W images. Both films are produced by reputable manufacturers and produce beautiful results.
The color film is designed for development in the C-41 process. The C-41 film is offered by most photo labs. For the B/W film, a black and white developer is needed. Depending on the film, it may be a different developer.
The area of the camera negatives is 24 mm x 36 mm. Thus, at least 36 exposures fit on a normal film. The film is wound manually in the camera.
