The Rollei Retro 400 is a black and white film. It was manufactured as Agfa APX 400 in Leverkusen and sold by Rollei.
It was available as 35mm and roll film. The Rollei Retro 400 is sold out in all formats and is no longer available. Adox is working on a successor with the Adox Pan 400.
The Retro 400 has a nominal sensitivity of ISO 400 and can be pushed up to ISO 800.
The Retro 400 should not be confused with the Retro 400s, also from Rollei. The 400s is still in production and delivers a different image look.
Storage and development of film material
Using unexposed film stock, especially film that is no longer in production, can be challenging. It is important to make sure that the film stock has not been stored under poor storage conditions, as this can cause a decrease in sensitivity and degrade the quality of subsequent photographs.
The unexposed film stock should be stored in a cool and dry place to preserve its quality.
Development
The choice of developer is another important factor in developing black and white film. There are a variety of developing chemicals that can have a significant impact on image impression, so it is important to use the right chemistry and supplies.
When developing film stock, it is advisable to follow the developer’s instructions for best results. If the development times, mixing ratio, and temperature for a particular developer are not available, similar films can be used as a guide.
After developing the film material, various options are available, such as making prints or digitizing the negatives. It is recommended to develop the exposed film promptly to achieve the best possible results.
