The Silberra PAN50 is a panchromatic black-and-white film with an ISO of 50. It features extremely fine grain, a wide tonal range, perfect sharpness and increased contrast.
There is also the Silberra ULTIMA50 black-and-white film, which is identical to the Silberra PAN50, but with a thinner base (which makes scanning and printing somewhat easier).
The Silberra PAN50 is well suited for street, portrait, landscape and architectural photography. However, it should be noted here that with its sensitivity of ISO 50, it is more suitable for shooting in high light.
Development of the film
The PAN50 is made in a black and white developer, either by lab service providers or on your own at home. It is important to note that the choice of film developer can affect the appearance of the images. There are many lab service providers that offer black and white film development.
It can be helpful to use similar films as a guide and experiment around if information about development times, mixing ratio, and development temperature is not available with each developer. When the development process is complete, film strips are available that contain the photographs that were taken. Prints can be made from the developed negatives using an enlarger, or alternatively, the images can be converted to digital form using a scanner. It is common for most developing labs to make prints of the images as an add-on option.
One way to digitize film strips for digital processing is to use a scanner. There are a variety of options for digitizing negatives, from basic scanners to specialized equipment. Once digitized, the files can be printed in a variety of formats or shared on social media.
Formats
The film was offered by Silberra only for 35mm cameras. Typically, 36 photos can be taken on one roll of film format.
There are a variety of suitable models for 35mm format offered by different manufacturers such as Lomography, Olympus and Fujifilm.
