Rollei Nightbird

The Rollei Nightbird is a Redscale film. It is an ISO 800 color negative film that has been reversed. Despite its high sensitivity, you should not necessarily use it in low light.

For good results, you should overexpose it a few stops. Then the Nightbird will bathe the world in orange-red night.

Formats

Rollei offers the Nightbird as normal 35mm film. One roll of film usually fits 36 frames. It is also available in a disposable camera. As medium format film (120) and in the format 127 there was him also once. Who manufactures the film for Rollei is not known.

You can use the film in most 35mm cameras. Due to the lack of DX encoding, there may be limitations with some camera models. For example, the film speed on some cameras can only be set using this encoding.

Development of the Rollei Nightbird

The Rollei film developed in the C-41 process, which is offered by most photo labs. However, problems can occur during development in some labs if the film stock is not handled in the proper manner. When the film is rotated, the more sensitive side of the material is exposed, which can lead to scratches, depending on the technique.

Another problem with developing Rollei Nightbird and Redscale film in general can occur with prints. Most photo labs perform image correction to optimize colors before making prints. However, since no correction is possible with Redscale photos, the prints may turn out disappointing. In this case, it is recommended that you digitize the images yourself and then print them, or advise the lab of the special requirements of Redscale films.
