The Lomography Redscale 100 120 is a Redscale film. A redscale is a reversed color negative film.

It is relatively easy to convert a 35mm film into a redscale. With a medium format, it takes a little more fiddling. If you want to save yourself the trouble, you can buy this film from Lomography.

The film for medium format cameras is sold in packs of 3 rolls each. The possible number of frames is related to the format the camera exposes. It is developed in the C-41 development process.

In the right direction, it has a sensitivity of ISO 100. Since it loses some of its sensitivity because it is exposed through the back, it is advisable to expose it a bit more to avoid underexposed photos. 1 to 2 f-stops is a good start. That’s why it’s also better to use it on sunny days and not on cloudy days or in dark interiors. Because ISO 50 or ISO 25 is not that much anymore, especially for cameras with a small aperture.

The Lomography Redscale 100 120 bathes the subject in red, orange to yellow hues.

The country of manufacture for the Redscale 100 120 is Italy (Made in Italy). From this you could conclude that the film probably comes from Ferrania.

The 35mm version of the Redscale 100 was discontinued.

Development

Developer becomes the Lomography film, as already mentioned in the C-41 process. This process is offered by most photo labs. While you can theoretically turn the film in at any lab that offers this development service, you may run into problems.

By turning the film, the more sensitive side of the material is exposed, so depending on the technique, scratches can occur more easily. The solution would be to turn the film stock back to the correct side, but this is somewhat difficult with medium format film.

A second problem can occur with prints. Most photo labs do image correction before making the prints to get the “correct” colors. Of course, this is not possible with Redscale photos, so the prints can be a bit disappointing. Here, you must not be fooled by the prints and simply digitize the images yourself and then print them out or specifically point this out to the lab.

Update | 07/17/2013

Meanwhile, the film no longer comes from Italy, but China is listed as the country of manufacture on the packaging.
