The Polaroid Spirit Toyota Vista is an instant camera made by Polaroid. It was introduced to the general public in the 1980s.

The model’s feature set is the same as the Polaroid OneStep 600, and it is the result of a collaboration between Polaroid and Toyota. On the top of the black case is the Toyota Vista logo. Toyota Vista was a model line offered by the Japanese automaker starting in the 1980s. Later, there was another model with the logo of Toyota.

The Polaroid Spirit Toyota Vista is extremely user-friendly. It has been designed without most of the settings options found on other types of cameras. Its simplicity allows it to be used for many different occasions. For example, it is a good choice for parties and weddings. Even on vacation, the camera cuts a very good figure.

Changes to the exposure settings are not possible. The shutter speed cannot be changed. You can’t select the aperture value yourself either. The lens has a fixed focal length. It is not possible to change the optics. Many of today’s cameras have a zoom function. This function is not available on this model. The shortest distance for focusing is 120 cm. This minimum distance must be maintained for sharp images. For example, for indoor shooting, a flash bar can be connected to the camera.

Films for the Polaroid Spirit Toyota Vista

Of course, the appropriate film stock is also needed for the use of the camera. The original film stock is no longer produced. In a factory in the Netherlands, films for the 600 format are produced again since the year 2010.

There is a suitable color film and a black-and-white film for the camera. The matching color film is the Polaroid Color Film for 600*. To shoot black and white images, you can reach for the Polaroid B&W Film for 600*. How do the films perform in tests? Both films can convince in many situations.

You’ll find eight pictures in a pack. The instant films are very sensitive to light. Contact with light before shooting should therefore be avoided. The best possible conditions for storage are in a dry and dark place.

According to the standard, an image measures 10.8 x 8.8 cm. The 600 cameras produce square images with a dimension of 7.7 by 7.7 cm. The remaining space is filled by the frame. Special edition Polaroid films with colorful frames are also offered.

Not compatible are the instant films offered by Fujifilm, also a Japanese manufacturer.

Batteries

What batteries do you need for the instant camera? In this type of camera, the battery is found in the film cassette. So changing the film is also changing the battery. This is the only battery that is needed for the camera.

The film cassette, because of the battery, should not be thrown in the household garbage. For environmental protection, the battery should be recycled properly.

Polaroid Spirit Toyota Vista Instruction Manual

How to take instant pictures with the instant camera? A short instruction manual on how to operate the Polaroid Spirit Toyota Vista.

The first step is to insert the instant film. For this, the small slider on the side is pushed forward. This opens the film door. The film cassette is then inserted. Then the flap can be closed again. Now the camera ejects the protective cover of the film.

Now you can start taking pictures. To do this, press the subject with the camera and press the shutter release button. The drive inside the housing transports the image out of the film cassette. In the process, it passes through two image rollers that distribute the developing chemicals onto the image. When the development process of the instant image is completed after a few minutes, the photo can be closely examined.

Alternative Options

If you can’t find a camera, you can turn to alternatives. The first option one can choose is the Polaroid OneStep 600. It has the same features. Moreover, it uses the same film stock.

A new angle is brought by other camera manufacturers. Outside the Polaroid world, you can find the Instax Mini 40* and LomoInstant Square*, for example. Here, too, you can still easily purchase the film material.
