The Polaroid Spirit L’Express is an instant camera from Polaroid. It dates back to the 1980s. The model’s range of functions is the same as the Polaroid OneStep 600, and it is the result of a cooperation between Polaroid and L’Express. L’Express is a news magazine. Founded as a weekly magazine in 1953, it is one of the oldest news media in France. The magazine’s logo can be found on the black case in white lettering.

The Polaroid Spirit L’Express is characterized by its uncomplicated handling. Most of the setting options found on other types of cameras have been omitted. Thanks to its simplicity, it can be used on many occasions. It is a good choice for weddings or at other celebrations. The camera also cuts a decent figure when traveling.

The most important settings are fixed on the camera. There is no possibility for free adjustment of shutter speed and aperture. It is not possible to change the lens. It has a fixed focal length. There is no zoom function, as with a digital camera. Instead, you simply have to get closer to the subject with the camera. You should not get closer than 120 cm to the subject. Otherwise, you won’t recognize much in the pictures in the end.

A flash bar can be connected when shooting in low light conditions. Unsuccessful is the search for a tripod thread on the camera. Does the camera offer a self-timer function? No, such a function does not exist.

Films for the Polaroid Spirit L’Express

Of course, films are also needed for the camera. The original film material from the 80s has not been offered for quite some time. No need to worry, since 2010 films for the old 600 cameras are offered again.

There is a color and a black and white film for the 600 format. The Polaroid Color Film for 600* is the film for color photos. The right handle for black and white pictures goes to the Polaroid B&W Film for 600*. The popularity of the films is also confirmed in various tests.

One pack is enough for eight pictures. One should take care that the film material does not come into contact with light outside the camera. For the storage of unexposed film material, one should look for a storage place that is as cool and dry as possible.

According to the standard, an image measures 10.8 x 8.8 cm. The captured image takes up an area of 7.7 by 7.7 cm. The remaining area is filled by a white area. Also available are editions of the Polaroid films with colorful frames.

Is it possible to use the Instax films? Clear answer, no! The films do not fit the camera.

Batteries

Do you need batteries for the instant camera? The camera is powered by a battery in the film cassette. So with every film change, the battery is also changed. You do not need to buy an additional battery for the camera.

As soon as the film is empty, the film cassette or battery must not be disposed of in the normal household waste. For environmental reasons, the battery should be properly recycled at a local site.

Instructions for the Polaroid Spirit L’Express

How to take instant pictures with the instant camera? A quick guide on how the Polaroid Spirit L’Express works.

The first step is to load the instant film. To do this, first push the slider on the side forward so that the film door opens. Then insert the film cassette and close the flap again. The film protecting the film is now removed by the motor in the camera.

Alternatives

If one does not find the camera, it is advisable to resort to other options. A first option to reach for is the Polaroid OneStep 600, which has the same range of features. In addition, of course, it exposes the same films.

If it should be a different film format, there is a larger selection of different instant cameras. Two particular models that do not come from Polaroid are the Instax Mini 40* and LomoInstant Wide*. Suitable film stock is also still being manufactured.
